You can easily compare Word documents against each other with the Microsoft Word app in Mac OS X and Windows, Word of course is part of the Microsoft Office Suite, and a very popular app for writing.

How Do I Compare Two Doc In Word For Mac 2011

I remember several decades ago, the process to compare Word documents was fully manual and involved two people. Each one held a different version of the document. One person would read their document out loud. The other person would notate the differences on their version of the document.

Much of my work is not copyrighted when I send it for a line-by-line copyedit or reader review. So, Microsoft made the wordprocessor decision for me. And I found that Pages was much more stable for large documents and is designed to seamlessly accept multiple and varied graphics. I should have made this switch years ago. I am outside the Gates and a strong proponent of Pages and Numbers. Yippie!

You just forgot one thing, when all your partners and business-related sends you documents in word, excel, and ppt, you have no choice but to subscribe to the office. No matter how much I love the simplicity and free of Pages.

I have to update my Microsoft 2011 for Mac. The reviews for Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac are pretty bad. I am considering getting Apple Pages. I have many Word documents (30 years of genealogy research). 1). Would I need to convert all my Word documents to Pages? 2). Can Word documents be switched easily to Pages documents? 3). I have macOS Mojave. Will my Word documents written with Microsoft Word 2011 become unuseable?

Then there is a nasty bug in the macro recorder leading to slashes instead of colons in the string for fileName in the first code block:"/Users/mark/SMPTE_RP_219_2002.png"where the correct format for Word for Mac 2011 on OS X has to be:"Users:mark:SMPTE_RP_219_2002.png"

The first being users upgrading from MS Office 2008 to MS Office 2011. When Office upgrades it does not fully remove the older 2008 suite from a user's computer but leaves elements of it. This causes the compare function to stop working.

If it returns a "14.x.x" result open DocMoto and compare two versions in version history. With DocMoto still open go to the Console application in Applications, Utilities. In 'All Messages' the last line should start with a time stamp and say DocMoto Client after it. Expand the message using the triangle to the side. Copy the entire message and then open AppleScript Editor again. Paste the message into AppleScript editor and delete the first line up to the colon ( date timestamp DocMoto Client [xxxx]: ).

To prove this connect using the DocMoto's server IP address rather than a DNS name with a user with a shorter name to a file that is in a folder just off the root and compare two versions, so the comparison string for version 1 and 2 of a file would look something similar to this:

If you have an Office 365 subscription and have installed both the Mac and Windows versions of Office, installing the Windows version inside Parallels virtual machine disables DocMoto's comparison feature. If you run the AppleScript above that returns the word version number instead of returning a number, it returns the name of the Parallels virtual machine.

The default spacing in Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 is set to120 percent of the default font size. However, you can configure Word for Mac to set single spacing as the default for text in the current document or in the Normal template for all future documents. You can also set the spacing between paragraphs in a single document or in the template. By default, Word 2011 inserts 1 1/2 spaces between paragraphs. Decrease the paragraph spacing setting to single space, if desired, in the Line Spacing Options settings.

I use change tracking in Microsoft Word to collaborate with others while jointly editing a document, however, I am not interested in tracking formatting changes. On the Windows version of Word, I was able to easily turn of tracking of formatting changes, however, on Word for Mac 2011, I have been unable to accomplish this.

On the Mac, under the Review tab, I can turn off visibility in the Tracking subsection by selecting the popup menu Show Markup and unchecking Formatting but formatting changes are still being tracked even when not visible. I also tried going to the Preferences... below Formatting and in the Track Changes dialog under Markup section setting Formatting: to (none), Color: to Auto, but I still get tracking. My recollection is that on the Windows version of word, this is where you would disable tracking of formatting changes.

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 is a version of the Microsoft Office productivity suite for macOS. It is the successor to Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac and is comparable to Office 2010 for Windows. Office 2011 was followed by Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac released on July 9, 2015, requiring a Mac with an x64 Intel processor and OS X Yosemite or later. Office for Mac 2011 is no longer supported as of October 10, 2017.[2] Support for Lync for Mac 2011 ended on October 9, 2018.

Microsoft Office 2011 includes more robust enterprise support and greater feature parity with the Windows edition. Its interface is now more similar to Office 2007 and 2010 for Windows, with the addition of the ribbon. Support for Visual Basic for Applications macros has returned after having been dropped in Office 2008.[3][4] Purchasing the Home Premium version of Office for Mac will not allow telephone support automatically to query any problems with the VBA interface. There are however, apparently, according to Microsoft Helpdesk, some third party applications that can address problems with the VBA interface with Office for Mac.[citation needed] In addition, Office 2011 supports online collaboration tools such as OneDrive and Office Web Apps, allowing Mac and Windows users to simultaneously edit documents over the web. It also includes limited support for Apple's high-density Retina Displays, allowing the display of sharp text and images, although most icons within applications themselves are not optimized for this.

Office for Mac 2011 has a number of limitations compared to Office 2010 for Windows. It does not support ActiveX controls,[7] or OpenDocument Format.[8][9] It also cannot handle attachments in Rich Text Format e-mail messages sent from Outlook for Windows, which are delivered as winmail.dat attachments.[citation needed] It also has several human language limitations, such as lack of support for right-to-left languages such as Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew [10] and automatic language detection. [11]

Office for Mac 2011 also has a shorter lifecycle than Office 2010. Support for Office for Mac 2011 was originally scheduled to end on January 12, 2016, but because Office for Mac 2016 did not come out until July 2015, Microsoft extended support until October 10, 2017. [13] As 32-bit software, it will not run on macOS Catalina or later versions of macOS. It is also not officially supported on macOS High Sierra or macOS Mojave.[14][15]

Two editions are available to the general public. Home & Student provides Word, Excel and PowerPoint, while Home & Business adds Outlook and increased support.[16] Microsoft Messenger 8 is included with both editions, and Microsoft Communicator for Mac 2011, which communicates with Microsoft Lync Server, is available only to volume licensing customers.[17] Office 2011 requires an Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later.[18]

The final version was released to manufacturing on September 10, 2010,[25] was available to volume license customers a day later,[26] and made available to the general public on October 26, 2010.[27] Service Pack 1 was released on April 12, 2011.[28]

Do you use Office for Mac 2011? Well, as of macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Microsoft is dropping support for Office 2011. This means that, if you depend on this software, you need to make some changes. You have several options of which we will focus on below.
